In August 2001 IMS was contracted by AusAID (the Australian Agency for International Development) to produce the AIDA Directory of Indonesian Business.
Background
The Australia-Indonesia Development Area (AIDA),
encompasses the whole of Australia and Indonesia's eastern provinces, ie
all provinces except those in Java and Sumatra (see list). AIDA was launched in April 1997 by Australian
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and the then Indonesian Coordinating
Minister for Production and Distribution, Ir Hartarto. AIDA seeks to develop
closer economic relations between Australia and eastern Indonesia. A central
aim of AIDA is to improve the enabling environment for private sector trade
and investment between Australia and eastern Indonesia. Indonesia has accorded
AIDA equivalent status with the Association of South-East Asian Nations
(ASEAN) sub-regional economic cooperative schemes. Private sector activities
are considered the key to sustainable development of business linkages
in the AIDA region.
On 25 February 1999, at the second Ministerial
meeting on AIDA in Bali, Minister Downer announced that the Australian
Government would produce a directory listing businesses operating in the
Indonesian part of AIDA, which are potential partners for Australian companies,
either through investment or trade. In August 2001 AusAID commissioned Indonesia Management Specialists
Pty Ltd (IMS) to produce the directory.
The AIDA Business Directory
Indonesia Management Specialists Pty Ltd has designed and produced a practical, informative and user-friendly directory
of businesses that operate in the Indonesian part of AIDA. A main objective of
the directory is to assist the matching of potential Australian and Indonesian
business partners. The directory should be of particular assistance to
small and medium enterprises from both countries. The directory is available
in two forms: a printed version published in March 2002 and an on-line version.
Important Note:
IMS designed, published and managed the original web version (2002-2005). The management of the Directory was handed over to the International Finance Corporation's Program for Eastern Indonesia SME Assistance (IFC - PENSA) in February 2005. The new managers have designed and published their own version of the on-line directory, which can be viewed at www.indo-bizlinks.com
